Who Pays? The Bride's Family or the Groom's Family?

In today's society more couples are choosing to pay for their own wedding. Not that they don't want any help from there parents but some couples want to make sure they get what the want for their wedding, some couples are a little older, or it may be the second time around. However, ever now and again, we get a bride who asks, "Who pays for what? His family or mine?"

So here is the TRADITlONAL breakdown of who pays for what when planning a wedding:

Bride:

  • Gift for the groom on wedding day
  • Bridesmaids gifts and hostesses

Groom:

  • Bride's engagement ring and wedding rings
  • Gift for bride
  • Fee for the marriage license
  • Bride's Bouquet
  • Corsages for the groom's and bride's mom
  • Boutonnieres for the groomsmen
  • Gifts for the best man, groomsmen, and ushers
  • Honeymoon
  • Officiant(fee)
  • Your wedding attire

Groomsmen and Bridesmaids:

  • Your own wedding attire
  • Your own travel expenses
  • Wedding gift for the couple
  • Bachelor and Bachelorette Party/getaway

Bride's Parents:

  • Bridesmaids bouquets
  • Bride's wedding dress and veil
  • Ceremony Venue and Reception Venue
  • Flowers and decorations for the ceremony and reception venue
  • Food and Beverage for the reception
  • Gift for the couple
  • Wedding invitations and announcements including postage
  • Musicians
  • Photographer and/or videographer
  • Services for the wedding planner/coordinator
  • Tent if its on outdoor wedding or reception
  • Wedding Cake
  • Your own wedding attire

Grooms Parents:

  • Rehearsal Dinner
  • Gifts for the couple
  • Your own wedding attire
